Deadly Dead Stars✨
"Everything has its wonders, even darkness and silences" - Helen Keller
To me, space is the mirror of the soul... are we looking beyond or are we looking within? When I wonder at the marvel of outer space, it makes so much sense to me because I find similar marvels within us as well. Have you ever wondered, looking up at the stars at night, what is the mystery of this cosmos? Out of all that lies beyond the earth, black holes fascinate me the most. They are quirky, strange, they are cool, they are bad ass, both terrifying and beautiful in their mystery, they are like theoretical labs in outer space and how they fit in the grand design of the universe!
As we know, there are stars much much bigger than our Sun. They are a super dense corpse of a massive star formed when a very massive star dies due to its gravitational collapse in a supernova, one of the most beautiful and horrifying moments of the universe. The gravitational waves of black hole are so extreme they can bang on space time like mallets on drums.
Up until recently, before some genius people actually took a picture of a black hole, we had only theorized what we'll see when we look at a black hole, its Event Horizon. It's like a boundary in the spacetime with a pull so powerful that nothing escapes it, not even light. Although, the edge of the event horizon do emit some forms of energy, (Hawking radiation, theorized and named after the magnificent Stephen Hawking), which is kinda like evaporation, so given enough time, a black hole will radiate and vanish....POOF!
According to the theory of general relativity, at the center of a black hole is Singularity, a place where density is infinite, but has no surface or volume at all. Inside the black hole, fabric of time and space is wraped.
What if we fall into a black hole?
There are two possibilities: 1. You die 2. You die a very quick death 3. You just might live!! Fairly, the first two aren't pleasant and the third one remains to be found out, so you know, try not falling into one, I guess. A smaller black hole might make a spaghetti outta you, pulling you from one end and gravity pulling at you from other end.. The further away from singularity you are more you live. It is quite similar to falling in a stream with waterfall at its end from where you can never turn back.
Time
Our experience of time is very different around the black hole. For an observer watching you fall into the black hole, time slows down, you appear red & redder slowly freezing into time, disappearing and lost in the secrets of cosmos forever. But before we plan your funeral, lets think of this from your point of view....what happened to you....NOTHING....given you fell into a supermassive black hole. You would just sail away, no spaghetti, just in free fall, no gravity. So theoretically speaking, in a big enough black hole you could live out pretty normally, whatever the "normal" is there and you could even see a fast forward version of our future. You can compare an Event Horizon to mid-point of an hourglass⏳, if you are at very centre of it you could see time flowing into its lower portion i.e. the universe outside of an black hole & upper portion is like inside of an black hole where space-time curve gets distorted.
Are these invincible? Will they be our end?
Fortunately, these aren't invincible, black holes die, as pointed earlier, they vanish but this process is so slow we won't be living long enough to witness it.
But wait, our sun is a star....could it die and become a black hole? No!!! Why? Because its tinyyyyyy! It will simply run out of fuel, collapse, fuse heavy elements at its core, blow up and engulf the earth and then in about another billion years, become a white dwarf. Our world as we know it, will become a cosmic boneyard with dead remnants of a star. So cold!!❄
After thirty billion trillion trillion trillion years, the last black hole would evaporate and explode bathing the universe in the light for one last time. Cold, dark and empty, that's how the cosmos will spend the rest of its life. TIME BECOMES MEANINGLESS, no further chaos in this Universe. The Universe gave life only a brief moment to shine from its fiery birth to its icy death and this thing intrigues me the most.
Our fate and that of the stars is eventual death. The cosmos will be plunged into eternal night. So when all the stars turn off, what was born with a big bang will end with a whimper, albeit a bright one!๐๐ ๐
